01 Chapter one · Base camp
The Signal
The rescue call begins at the Antarctic base camp. Treat this opening as the team's rehearsal: learn what your partner can see before you commit to an interaction.

Complete puzzle guide
The expedition begins at base camp. Before the explorers can leave, they must open the locked work areas, tune the receiver, locate the distress signal on the map, and load exactly the right amount of fuel.
The two players can move freely around the camp, so split the work and report every shape, channel, code word, and number exactly as it appears.
Handle locations and where they are used
The removable handles open doors or activate equipment. Match the motif on each handle to the matching socket.
- Square handle: outside the kitchen stove; use it on the door leading to the garage area inside base camp.
- Triangle handle: beside the fireplace; use it to open the garage shutter from outside.
- Cross handle: beside the radio; use it to activate the antenna equipment on the roof.
- Rectangle handle: on the outer edge of the roof; use it on the map-room door.
- Pentagon handle: outside base camp near the Antarctic Ocean; thaw it on the indoor stove, then use it to open the fence leading to the outdoor fuel equipment.
Tune the radio receiver
Operate the rooftop receiver and the radio inside base camp at the same time. The rooftop player uses the left and right buttons to move through eight channels.
The indoor player reshapes the radar signal: left and right change its width, while up and down change its height. The lower radar is also displayed on the rooftop unit, so the rooftop player must describe the target shape over voice chat.
When both waveforms match exactly, music or a radio broadcast will play. Four waveforms must be matched: the first three play music and the fourth carries the spoken coordinates.

Receiver answer
Work through the signals until three musical broadcasts have played. The next correctly matched signal is the SOS broadcast that supplies the six map coordinates.
Use the radio message to find the destination
Listen to the broadcast and convert each spoken code into a map coordinate. Each of the six messages represents a letter followed by a number.
The phonetic words give the first letter: Delta becomes D, Charlie becomes C, Beta becomes B, and Echo becomes E.
There are two map handles. One player controls the horizontal coordinate and the other controls the vertical coordinate. Hold both handles until the sliders meet at a target, then let the mechanism reset before entering the next coordinate.
A correct target is marked and the sliders return to the beginning. A wrong target plays a failure sound and erases every mark. Looking away from a handle also releases it and resets the slider.

Exact radio coordinates
Enter all six coordinates in this order. Three red destination marks appear; use the middle mark as the snowmobile destination.
- Charlie 753
- Beta 754
- Delta 195
- Echo 469
- Beta 481
- Charlie 447
Charge the fuel tank
This puzzle connects the fuel gauge inside the garage to two machines outside on the ocean side of camp. The target is the green line marked 6.
The garage gauge offers −8, −4, and −4. The two outdoor panels provide the values 8, 5, 5 and 8, 7, 4. Pull one outdoor lever on each panel, then pull the indoor lever whose value makes the final total equal 6.

Fuel answer
- Pull 7 on the first outdoor machine.
- Pull 7 on the second outdoor machine.
- Pull 8 on the indoor garage gauge. The result is 7 + 7 − 8 = 6.
